  • Basketball Stats - 641 words
Basketball Stats Executive Summary We tried to find out how certain basketball statistics affect winning percentage for a NCAA Division I basketball team. We used the entire NCAA division I 1999-2000 season statistics. We considered the following statistics: Field Goals, Free Throws, Personal Fouls, Turnovers, 3 Pointers, Blocks, & Steals. Our conclusion is that while a rise in each stat had some affect in the rise or fall of winning percentage, we could not determine a single stat that had a direct affect on the dependent variable (Winning Percentage). Our results were more effective when we ran the test on how the combination of all stats affected winning percentage, however, this would be ...

  • Investigation Of Pit Size Versus Larval Size In An Antlion - 1,115 words
... ore, previous studies found no relationship either between pit and nearest neighbor.3 For the second measurement we used a dial-caliper to measure the diameter of the pit. We selected the long diameter of the pit (the pits were often not perfectly symmetrical) and measured the distance to the nearest hundredth of a centimeter. At times difficulties arose in determining the actual edge of the pit. This may have introduced a small amount of error in measures of pit diameter in these cases. Measuring the slope distance required a delicate procedure to prevent disturbance of the buried antlion. We used a small stick that was placed at the bottom of the pit and was allowed to rest against the ...

  • Psyschology Study On Drinking - 3,216 words
Psyschology Study on Drinking Abstract In response to the need for research that incorporates multiple aspects of theory into a testable framework, this study attempted to replicate and extend the results of Cooper, Russell, Skinner, Frone, and Mudar (1992). A modified stressor vulnerability model of stress-related drinking was tested in a homogeneous sample of 65 male and female undergraduate student drinkers. Total weekly consumption of alcohol was used as the criterion measure, whereas family history of alcoholism (Adapted SMAST: Sher & Descutner, 1986), alcohol outcome expectancies/valences (CEOA: Fromme, Stroot, & Kaplan, 1993), perceived stress (PSS: Cohen, Kamarck, & Mermelstein, 1983 ...

... study variables. Conceptually variables may be grouped into one of five categories: weekly drinking (variable 1), perceived stress (variable 2), family history of alcoholism (variable 3), coping variables (Variables 4-7), and expectancy variables (variables 8-21). Examining the pattern of correlations between these variables suggests several conclusions. First, family history of alcoholism was neither significantly correlated with perceived stress nor with weekly drinking, suggesting that family history of alcoholism is not important in stress-induced drinking. Second, several coping variables were significantly correlated with either weekly drinking and/or perceived stress. Specifically ...

... ional acculturation scales and included in each version of the questionnaire for validation purposes. Individual items concerning language use (both reading and speaking), cultural foods, music, holiday celebrations, and family celebrations were inspired by items on the Marin et al. (1987) and Szapocznik et al. (1978) scales. Parallel items were included to address actual cultural behaviors (e.g., How do you celebrate family events?) and individuals' preferences for cultural behaviors (e.g., How do you prefer to celebrate family events?), yielding a total of 12 items added to each questionnaire. Complementing the response format for the PAS items, these items were scored on a 9-point sca ...
